The VW POLO VIVO draw on 26 April 2011 at the Cocktail Evening of the John Walton Alumni Association was the culmination of a very successful Alumni launch programme over the extended Easter Weekend period. Two of the three lucky winners are alumni of John Walton, with Mrs Donnyale Arnolds (Dippenaar) -who resides in Sasolburg, the winner of the Polo Vivo, part of the class of 1990. Ms Stephanie Ruiters, the winner of the 42’ Plasma TV, is a member of the class of 1982 that was well represented at the cocktail event. The latter already got her TV delivered at home, whilst Mrs Arnolds will take delivery of her vehicle in two weeks’ time, as the winner was afforded the opportunity to choose the colour of the vehicle. The winner of the third prize, a weekend for two at the world renowned Shamwari game reserve, is Mr Henno Apollis from Booysen Park, Port Elizabeth. The Alumni Association Executive Committee would like to take this opportunity to thank all the ticket distributors/sellers under the leadership of Mr Manie Daniels, all that bought a raffle ticket, the Mama Walton alumni, friends of Mama Walton and the Uitenhage community at large for their support during the launch event. The Committee believes the fact that the Association managed to deliver on the raffle draw on the promised date, with a first price worth more than R100, 000 –will stand it in good stead for future events. Said the newly elected Chairperson of the Association, Mr Jeffrey du Preez: “We salute the interim committee under the leadership of Mr Alroy Taai, who together with the school’s staff and many selfless volunteers have worked tirelessly in the months leading up to the launch, to ensure that everything was in place for the historic occasion”. The Executive is already been petitioned to make the cocktail evening and car raffle an annual event, and an announcement in this regard will be made within the next 3 months. The Association is determined to rebuild the walls of the beloved old landmark-John Walton Secondary, in partnership with the school management and SGB. |
